Tuesday Field Trip to the Baton Rouge Bee Lab

Participants can expect to learn more about the research conducted at the Honey Bee Breeding, Genetics and Physiology Lab. Currently, the nine scientists and their technicians perform experiments with Russian bees and other varroa-resistant bees (VSH), primarily. However, they also do research on small hive beetles, chalkbrood, nosema and tracheal mites. Participants will enjoy some great Cajun food at lunchtime followed by visits with various scientists.

Thursday Night Social Activity

Join us for a “taste of South Louisiana steeped in tradition” with a night out to Boutin’s Restaurant. Come enjoy a dinner of delectable Cajun creations followed by an evening of live entertainment and dancing. Cajun dancers will be available to help you perfect your “Cajun moves”.

Boutin's Restaurant provides an authentic South Louisiana experience. Overlooking their own little bayou, the venue includes murals by Robert Harris and Vincent Darby, which enhance the Cajun culture of the restaurant. One wall-to-wall mural documents Cajun history and home life, and a mounted book exhibit invites patrons to share the Cajun experience.

Round-trip transportation will be provided. Buses depart at 6:30 PM.
