Beekeeper Insurance Programs
USDA Risk Management Agency Beekeeper Crop Insurance Pilot Programs
The USDA Risk Management Agency (RMA) will continue two crop insurance pilot programs for apiculture for 2010. The insurance products are area index programs intended to offset the loss of the value of apiculture including honey production, collection of pollen, wax, and breeding using either a rainfall or a vegetation index. The programs were available in 21 states during 2009 and may be expanded to additional states in 2010. The deadline to purchase a 2010 crop insurance policy is November 30, 2009 (note: considerable preparation is required to apply). Additional information is available through the USDA RMA Web site.
